This adventure takes place near Richmond (North Yorkshire), a vibrant market town of unique character and beauty which has changed little through the centuries. If you’re looking for a fantastic day of fly-fishing trout and grayling, then a day spent on the River Swale is a must. You will learn or improve on your fly-fishing techniques, with expert tuition from an experienced guide. All kit is provided so all you need is a sense of adventure.

On the day you can expect your guide to meet you at your accommodation at 9.30am. After a quick chat about the day ahead, you will drive to the river and setup for the day.

Your guide will teach you about the kit, setting up the tackle, fly casting and all other aspects of this craft. You will even learn about the entomology at the river's side, as knowing what bugs and insects the trout eat can you give you that edge. Don’t worry if the above sounds all’s not and the time will fly by with lots of laughs along the way. It's all very hands on and interactive and that makes learning a new skill easier and more enjoyable.

All in all this is a fantastic option because it will teach you a range of fly-fishing techniques in a beautiful and relaxed environment. All kit and permits are provided (waders can be rented), so there is minimal hassle.

We recommend you first contact the guide to agree a date, then book your accommodation. Adventure sorted!

Client reviews

I have known Stuart for many years, both as an angler and while representing England in various roles. He is a highly skillful fly fisher with a great personality and has that uncanny ability to get the best out of anglers by encouragement and motivation. Having fished with Stuart in many places around the world, I have no hesitation in recommending him as a fly fishing coach and guide.

John (fly fishing guide)

Now there's a bloke who knows his fly fishing! Spent most of the day with Stuart who has a massive knowledge of the water, its insect life, and river craft. A very interesting and experienced instructor at the highest level but, most importantly, he has a great sense of humour and mutual love of single malts! Thanks for a great day I will never forget.
